Composite Knit Stool [2021-2023]

MATERIALS: Commingled Polypropylene & Fiberglass Yarn

DESCRIPTION: Developed with a team inside Jenny Sabin’s Lab at Cornell University. The aim was to design a load-bearing textile utilizing a flexible yarn that became a rigid composite after a chemical process. A variety of knit structures were tested for their compressive strength, then implemented into several hyperbolic stool shapes that were subsequently chosen based on their compliant capabilities during compression. A research paper is being written.
